all tracks by alessa otto / darren francis. recorded summer 2010 - spring 2011, final mix summer 2012.
regular blog readers may notice that this is shorter than the last track listing we posted; we dropped two tracks as we felt the album flowed a lot better without them. we'll put them out in another medium at some point, possibly as free tracks of the week.
we're also arranging cd editions of our three albums gehenna now, ascending a line in the sothis, and shamania. this will be after shamania is released. the shamania timings and track listing will differ to the digital version detailed above.
once shamania is released, darren francis will be taking a break from logos to concentrate on writing projects. this doesn't mean that logos will be put on hold; we'll still be putting out new free tracks of the week, the cd editions mentioned above, and working on tracks for our as-yet-untitled fourth album (which is already in progress). we also have tracks on at least one compilation album coming out this year; more details on those when we can release them.
don't forget to follow us on ffacebook, twitter, myspace, for the latest logos news and information.
here at logos towers, we've begun work on re-sculpting and mixing tracks for our third album shamania. the track listing will differ - though not drastically to that set out in our post dated 27th november 2010.
logos' darren francis has been busy with writing projects. you can follow this aspect of df's work on facebook here.
the next logos free track of the week is on its way. this is scheduled to be the unreleased* the looming tower. we may put out two very different versions - we're not sure yet. we'll put it up as soon as we've finished tinkering with it.
* albeit an early version did appear on our myspace page for a while.
a new(ish) track, put together this evening, 7th june 2011 - we say new(ish) because this re-works elements of the darren francis track the hills are alive (from his god thing project) into another and entirely other beast.
you can hear (and download) the original version here.
the new version is restructured, embelished, extended, and is without df's voice.
it's hard to believe that it's a year since we started logos. it all began in april 2010 during the sessions for darren francis' spoken word album hate ashbury*, the follow-up to his god thing project. things took a different - and very unexpected - turn, and before we knew it we'd already created the first tenatative logos tracks. at that time logos was named sick sick sixties, which we still think a good band-name though too much of a hangover from hate ashbury **, but logos - a name df had used for audio projects in the past - worked better for the music we wanted to make. the first logos track - gehenna now - was completed on 18th and 19th april 2010, with canticle, hollow hills of london, and everybody gets elves following before the end of the month.
we've come a long way since then. we've released our first album gehenna now, finished our second album ascending a line in the sky to sothis which will be releasing very soon, got very excited about our third album shamania, and along the way also managed to record another 20-odd tracks which will be finding their way out in one form or another. how to celebrate? let me count the ways. let's start with another logos free track of the week, our second album ascending a line in the sky to sothis, a logos q&a to give you an insight into our morbid practices, and some entirely new music. after that? let's see.
* = which - as a consequence of logos - was never finished, but df intends to do so ere long.
** = this will make more sense when df puts out hate ashbury, which will be coming this year. 'fucked up industrial hippy music' was the remit.
the latest logos track in what seems like too long, hypoboy was created on the evening of 8th march 2011.
more new music is on its way. we've been busy of late with the final mix of ascending a line in the sky to sothis, and darren francis has been engaged in writing projects, with the recording of his second spoken-word-with-music album (which, being primarily guitar-driven, is a very different beast to the first) and with an impending house move. no worries; alessa otto will take up the slack.
we also have another couple of logos free tracks of the week on their way, one of which will be a track you've never heard before. watch this space for announcements.
[edit 25th october 2012] this is a completely different track to the one that appears under the same name on shamania. this version is unreleased. the hypoboy on shamania was originally titled [ - / + ]
our latest logos free track of the week is a version of the track manunkind.
this was one of the first logos tracks, created back in june 2010, and features voice by darren francis and words by e e cummings (the poem 'pity this busy monster, manunkind') . we did a radical edit of this track in january 2011 for darren francis' myspace page. this current mix, a compromise between the 9'24" original and the 2'17" edit, was created on 18th february 2011.
darren francis' spoken word album god thing is now available to download for free here.
track listing:
01. w9gfo 02. black olives 03. fissure king 04. god, love, money and other snares 05. will i dream 06. scarecrow 07. the hills are alive 08. hollowed be thy meme
this material was created between december 2009 and march 2010, and its probably fair to say that without it there would have been no logos.
you can hear a version of the track manunkind at darren francis' myspace page. this track features darren francis reading the e e cummings poem pity this busy monster, manunkind with music by logos, and was one of the earliest logos tracks, created back in june 2010. this version is a massive edit of the original, and omits the seven minute instrumental introduction. we expect that one version or another of this track will feature as a logos free track of the week in future.
at darren francis'myspace page you can also hear some other tracks featuring df's voice, including tracks from the god thing spoken word-with-music album. god thing was created in spring 2010 but df was then side-tracked by logos and never finalised the mix. god thing will be finished and available very shortly, and we'll post details here.
on 4th december 2010 logos' darren francis had a tattoo done based upon/inspired by the logos avatar beastie. herewith a photo:-
yes, the tee-shirt is a bit of shameless advertising for another band (the rather wonderful she wants revenge) but we like the tattoo so much we can forgive df that.
herewith, as promised, details of our second album ascending a line in the sky to sothis, which will hopefully release next month if we finish the mix by then. at the bottom of this post you'll find the cover art, which is by our friend debb rooken-smith and which we like very much.
current track listing:
1. sothis rising (8.12) 2. to please the moon (10.13) 3. sun king (22.05) 4. do you love? (9.11) 5. the opening of the mouth (18.28) 6. coming forth by day (9.45) (total time: 1:17:51)
timings are approximate until we finish the mix, but we doubt they'll vary much. all tracks were created between june and august of this year (at the same time as we were working on the gehenna now material). you can hear preliminary versions of some tracks on our myspace page.
why sothis? and why so sirius? those of you who know what sothis means, and dog-days, and their significance to darren francis, shouldn't have to ask.
we finished mixing the gehenna now album two weeks back and we're currently finalising the artwork. release date is 31st october 2010. an apt date? of course.
we've done a new track tonight, deepblue2519. odd but interesting, we like it. fire in the mind indeed.
regarding darren francis' voice at the end of this track, df had originally intended to record something very different but these 'aside' comments were what we liked best about that recording and what we opted to use in the end. there may or may not be other things buried deep in the mix if you listen hard enough.... we'll bung it on one or another of our online profiles anon.
on that note, this last week we've re-jigged our myspace, facebook, and reverbnation playlists with new mixes of gehenna now tracks and other tracks. have a listen if you fancy.
logos in its current incarnation was founded in aylesbury, bucks, april 2010, though the name has been used by darren francis for musical projects for some years.
we have recorded three tracks so far: gehenna now (18th-19th april), canticle (21st-22nd april), and hollow hills of london (23rd april). more tracks are on their way.
